I am pleased to announce that The Modern War Institute at West Point just published a short piece I wrote along with my friend and publisher Phil Halton. FYI.
The Enlightened Soldier 
I was asked to head up a new Lessons Learned section after I returned from Afghanistan. When I asked why, the response was that we had to learn the lessons of Afghanistan to prepare for the next war. I responded by replying that Afghanistan was already the last war, and we would be learning the wrong lessons. I then handed in my retirement memo. All that to say, I get it, and agree with your conclusions.

Rory, as two “old dogs” we share a lot of opinions. The most puzzling to me is why we seem institutionally incapable of breaking out of the mindset that you fought against.
